Can we analyse ourself and ascertain the health of our soul?
If so, how can we tell we are healthy and strong as soul-alive people?
It is not about our feelings or what we think about what we are doing, but about the standards laid out for us in the word of God. It is about our faith and about how strong and resilient that faith is. Faith grows over the years of our Christian life as we experience hardship and trouble of all kinds. It can wax or wane, be weak or strong depending on our hold on the Lord and our time spent in the holy Scriptures. It’s overall trajectory is in holiness of life and obedience to the Lord. We are constrained by the Holy Spirit who dwells in our souls, to walk worthy lives for God.
We are to be humble and gentle people, who bear with each other in the faith, in great love. Our lives are characterised by the peace of God that is not dependent on us, but in the sacrifice of our Saviour who died to save us and make that peace possible.
We are to walk through our lives in the wisdom of the Lord and in a growing understanding of the Lord through the Word. The life of God will become more natural to use as we obey and His precepts become part of our daily life. All parts of our being will be subject to the commands of the Lord and we will follow them carefully and fully.
Our old sinful self will be put away from us and the new life in Christ will become more and more apparent to us as we conform ourselves to the way of Jesus. We will become more like Him and desire Him more fully as we progress through this life here and now. We will see that we are growing in righteousness and the true holiness of God as our tastes and attitudes change and we lay off all the filth rags that continue to cling to us.
Truth will be our attribute, as we stand firm on truth and justice and seek righteousness in our life. We will be angry about injustice and the sinfulness we see around us, but it is a godly anger and does not last, but is dealt with in bringing all the issues to God. All bitterness is gone, and all evil speaking and godless chatter, sinks away from our psyche and we put on the character of Christ.
Love is our defining attitude and behaviour. We walk in love as Christ did for us, keeping a sinless life and giving himself as a sacrifice for sin, that we could be redeemed. All uncleanness is gone for our mindset and behaviour and all sexual sins are a thing of the past. We walk every day in the light of the holy Word of God with the fruit of the Spirit as our constant behaviour pattern. Goodness, righteousness and truth are our attributes as we conform to the image of Christ to become His godly people.
We realate to each other in love, always keeping the bond of peace in the Lord Jesus, and doing everything for the building up of the people of God. Our aim is to edify the body of Christ and to grow up in Him as the head of that body.
This is the template for the health or our soul and the pointers we can use to ascertain if we are of the faith or not, and if we are walking in the way of Christ. If your soul is alive you will embrace these truths and love them and seek to follow the Lord in fellowship and truth.
