The mind is a huge labyrinth of neurons that link up in all sorts of incredible and unique ways. There are 80,000,000,000 eighty billion of them! Our thoughts, ideas, emotions, memories, etc, are bound up in them. We can extend our minds into many different worlds and places. We construct enormous fractils of reality based on our experiences and knowledge. We can have amazing ideas about designing things and solving problems and construct articles just for fun and pleasure.
When our mind is working well we are creative, relaxed and happy. When our mind malfunctions it causes us much pain and fear. Our minds can generate thoughts and feeling that are positive and negative. When our mindset embraces the negative ideas we become depressed. When we embrace the positive we can become manic. To keep the balance is something we all must learn to do, for we are all prone to deviate from one side to another.
We grow the labyrinth all through our lives and our minds should be becoming more and more flexible and lively as we age. We do not need to fall into stale ways of acting and reacting, but we continue to learn and develop our ideas. Learning keeps our mind healthy and strong and using our intellectual skills will increase the abilities that we have to be greater and stronger.
Mind illness is difficult, but if we learn how to cope with it, it makes us strong. We don’t have to be overcome by it, but can find a way through the maze of neutrons that make it happen. It is not all about chemicals, but also bound up in behaviour, feelings and reactions to serious or big events in our life. If we can sort out the thought labyrinth, we can get to the end of the problem. This is difficult. It cannot be done without the help of the One who made us and who loves us and is our safety in times of trouble and danger. He can unravel the tangled mass of thoughts and help us to straighten out the chaos and release us from the maze we are lost in. It is possible to understand, if we want to, but sometimes it is easier to stay in a state of confusion and unsettled thought, rather than understand. We do have a choice. God has promised us the gift of wisdom if we will humble ourselves and ask for it.
The mind is a labyrinth and almost impossible to know, even our own mind. We can entrust ourselves to God and know His power and insight in our thought processes that help us to have a settled mindset and a healthy set of strategies for dealing with our troubles. God has promised to help those who will trust in Him and accept the forgiveness He offers to those who repent and acquiesce to Him. The maze is now broken and we can see the way out as we rise above the constraints of the walls and see our freedom.
