The working of the mind impacts on all we do, say and have. It is the central core of our psyche and the powerhouse of our actions and thoughts. What we think about and ponder in our minds is of crucial importance for our behaviour. Without the restraining help of God and the daily strengthening of the word of God, our minds will be subject to all sorts of temptations and unwanted thoughts. We do not have to succumb to the evil that permeates our society but we can fill our minds with all that is good, and holy and wholesome. This presupposes that we want to do that, and get the victory over the negativity and blame that infiltrates our psyche.
Sometimes we wallow in self-pity and self-blame and allow the negative of the enemy to infiltrate our mind and pull us down. This does not need to be the case. We can sidestep the problem by acknowledging it and tracing its root and then dealing with it. We put it away from ourselves and get involved in thinking about something else. This will keep the thoughts in check and make us productive.
It is too easy to let the pains of the body dictate to us what we do in our minds. We can overthink the problem and spend all our time analysing the reasons why, and then becoming unhealthy and weakened in our bodies. Keeping the matter of our body fit and well is really important and to keep moving is a good strategy to stave off troubles. The mind is so powerful, so use it to help yourself to overcome the problems and solve them instead of wallowing in the issues. There are answers, but we don’t always need to know them, sometimes to trust in the Lord is the best plan. He has all the answers and will reveal them to us at the right moment.
In the search for peace, it is possible to fill our minds with a kind of false peace, that is the distraction of media, friends, job, anything that stops us facing the facts and sorting out our minds and life in a right way. It is painful to face our failures and weaknesses but it is necessary for a healthy psyche and set of motivations. Self-examination is good, and honesty is crucial. It is hard to be honest with ourselves because we want to think well of ourselves and not have the trouble in our conscience. We can face ourselves because we have a loving God who will completely forgive us and turn us around. This is massive comfort of the mind in trouble.
Drugs have very limited use. They only mask the issues and put off the day we have to face our thoughts. It is better to talk to someone, ideally God, and get the trouble sorted out. Our God is a consuming fire and loves holiness, for He is holy. He is also loving and full of mercy and tender care for His people. When we come to Him in repentance, we find forgiveness and lovingkindness. Mind is a real entity and so we treat it for real and with care and the protecting hand of God over us. We keep our body and mind fit and in good working order so that we can lead productive lives for God.
