
In the myriad of thoughts that we think, how do we judge which ones to pay attention to and which ones to cast away from us? An wanted thought or idea can often bother us as we are tempted away from our Lord and God. It is important to be grounded the the Word of God and keep good influence in our lives. We will have to dispense with many things that trouble the purity of our thoughts, and staying away from world-orientated activities is so helpful to our Christian mindset.
We cannot help having unworthy thoughts, but we need not focus on them, but practice bring skilled at keeping these unwanted thoughts at bay. We can replace unwanted thoughts with the good things we know from the promises of God. We can sense those unwanted thoughts coming and turn them away by thinking on the good. Our motivation needs to be in place, so that we have the strength to persevere under the trial. God gives us the insight and power to fight this mental battle on a very sensitive battleground!
Satan, our mortal and spiritual enemy, is ever on the prowl and can lob into our psyche many hurtful and cynical thoughts that hurt us and can influence those around us. We must learn to process them properly and not allow them to infest our mind and influence our mood. God is gracious to us and gives us the comfort of His Word to help us. As we learn the precepts of God and steep our mind in the Scripture, so we are strengthened to cope with the rejection of other people and the temptations to retaliate.
God gives us patience and fortitude as we fight the mental battles for His eternal glory. We seek a mind like that of Christ, who brought everything to the Father and received the power to overcome. Let us ever seek Him, Jesus our Saviour, who we love. Let us think His thoughts after Him and reject every evil way.
