Peaceful mind

“For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;”

Romans 8:6

Our puny humans minds are unsettled very easily. We become conflicted and psychosis can overtake us at points of severe distress and emotional conflict. How we act and react in these times of conflict is not always under our control as it is difficult to separate the “real” from the delusions that we can experience. The persistence of voices that add their stress to our dilemma can cause us much fear and anxiety. We need not fear, for the Lord our God is still in control and leading us even when our footsteps are almost lost to us.

Our human mind can become difficult to bear as it tries to sort out thoughts and feelings that have been left hidden over the years and tragedies never addressed and emotions never acknowledged. Our mind is paradoxically powerful and will lead us down difficult pathways as it tries to sort out all the hurt and unsolved problems that we have accumulated. Who can sort it out?

It is such a painful journey and must be embarked upon in faith and dependence on our Lord Jesus Christ. Only the power of the balm of the Holy Spirit will be able to see us through and help us to cope with the pains. Medication can be helpful, but often masks the problems and just puts off the evil day of facing up to the fear and panic.

Sin causes us such difficulties and can drag us down into a wrong lifestyle and false ways to deal with our difficulties. We must trust in God and obey Him, that He knows what is best for us and that His commandments are pure and lead us to peace. When we try to deal with our difficulties ourselves, we fall into deep trouble and find ourselves off the road that leads home. If we give credence to our fleshly disposition it will make things worse for us, but the mind that is centred on the Lord and all His ways, will find the right way through and the inner peace we seek.
