How good it is to be alive and functioning. It is the Lord who owns us who keeps us in a good place and able to function on a daily basis. How good it is to understand the labyrinth that is our mind and be at peace. The trouble is that our minds never stay still, even when we sleep. We are constantly changing and adapting to our surroundings, thoughts and emotions and other people we meet in our life. The labyrinth keeps changing and morphing into different patterns and sequences of thoughts. It is alive and kicking and that is a healthy way to be. It keeps us from boredom and staleness and keeps us from seeking wrong measures to stave off depression and mania.
Anyone can get psychosis. It is not just the favoured few! We all must recognise our preponderances to depression and mania – these two states of being and all the attendant shades in between. We have no excuse for looking down on recognised sufferers for we all suffer. Being able to handle your own mind is a great skill, or set of skills, and leads to insight and wisdom. Insight and wisdom come from God and anyone can ask for it and receive it. We must acquiesce to God’s ways and have a relationship with Him, if we are to make full access to this deep well of help.
Let us not think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think, or continually castigate ourselves as worms, but believe what the Scripture says that we can be born again and have a new start. To be human means we have the capacity to experience and know God in person and Him we should pursue until we find Him, or He finds us! Let us not run from our God but trust all His ways and doings and walk with Him.
