This is a mindset the leads the mind down into ever increasing thoughts of catastrophic events that could happen and that can seem real. It is another phenomenon on the treadmill of thoughts that our mind can entertain in psychosis, and is a sub-branch from paranoia.
We can think of something terrible that could happen and a chain of events that could follow on from the event that leads to a terrible outcome. It is fake, but can cause us much discomfort if we imagine it is real. This is another trick of the mind in psychosis and is quite easy to dispel once we identify what it is. It is important to be able to analyse the mind, so that we can identify it and set the catastrophe aside as unwanted thought.
It can happen at any time and like everything else, once we identify it, we can control it in our mind and the significance is broken and we can remain at peace.
The Apostle Peter identifies a chain of virtue that helps us to remain at peace and analyse our soul state, rather than the false constructs of our mind. He speaks of faith beginning the chain, followed by virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness and love. It is the focusing on our life in God, as this chain shows us, that we will be able to deal with the falsehoods our mind throws up.
Faith begins the chain. God gives us the gift of faith as we seek after Him, for we have no natural ability to keep the chain, and need the indwelling Spirit of God to empower us. Let us succumb to His will and accept the salvation offered to us by God, repenting of the folly of our own way, and being changed in our inner core of being. Only then can we posses the virtue of Christ and have the courage to look inside ourselves to sort out our propensities.
Let us fill our mind with the reality of Christ, who alone can save us and teach us about ourselves. We set aside all false thinking and root our belief in the Lord our God and not our own folly.
