To know that your moral guilt is passed away to the key to good mental health. It is a place of rest and the incessant striving ceases and we are at peace. The unforgiven mind has many negatives to contend with as we are dogged with guilt and blame. To be able to lay all our wrongs at the feet of Christ is sweet relief and He can and will forgive us.
It is difficult for us to enter into this state of mind and heart because we do not want to face our moral guilt and admit to God that we are not good enough. Our pride keeps us from dealing with our legitimate blame and so we justify ourselves and are further entrenched in our guilt. This builds up in our life and eventually we are heavily burdened with sinful attitudes and deeds and become hardened to the effect of the guilt which impacts our thought processes and causes us to be full of sins. We justify ourselves and fail to face the realities on what we have done.
We forget about forgiveness and live our life for the here and now and never come to a place of rest. Life becomes full of striving and getting. We cover over our sins with other things and our emotions become unstable and wretched. The Lord watches over us until we come to a state of repentance and seek Him. God keeps all His people and brings them to the painful state of seeking and then finding the relief of forgiveness which changes us and makes us fit for God and heaven. Without forgiveness we cannot enter rest and will face life’s trials and ending without the Lord. We dare not do this, for it is a fearful state to fall into the hands of the living God.
When we are forgiven by God we are challenged about our own forgiveness for other people who have wronged us. God requires that we forgive others if we would be forgiven. This is the divine way of life which changes everything and gives us a new and bright perspective on life and other people. Forgiveness is the way to heaven and the delight of walking with Christ in the here and now. Forgiveness brings peace to every situation and joy to the heart.
The peace of God is for the believer who has sought forgiveness and has also forgiven and so all is at rest. This is life for sure and the pathway to heaven and glory.
