A mind redeemed

We can think of the future for our physical life and what God has promised to all who love Him. We rejoice to know the redemption of our bodies, which God will glorify one day, making them fit to live in the coming eternal kingdom. We do not often think about the redemption of our minds and how they will be made new in that kingdom. Our mind is our most precious possession and to suffer mind illness is particularly difficult to cope with. The mind is strong and we have an inbuilt drive to live and survive. We have many thoughts and thought processes, which need to be centred in the truth of God.

This is the way of knowing God and it is important to train our mind to think correctly about God and His unchanging truth. We conform our thought processes to the meditation of the Word of God and His supreme being. There is nothing that will mend the mind like this. It is important that we put good material into our thought life, so that we are mentally strong, especially when the challenging time comes. We should read and expose ourselves to positive and good books that will teach us the principles of godly living. To feed our psyche on novels and sensationalist stories is not helpful. If you are able, read books by older generations of Christians who thought deeply about spiritual life and health. I suggest any of the puritan writers, John Calvin, Matthew Henry and the like.

God is our portion and we are built for Him. We find freedom in our mind as we deliberately turn away from the things that trouble us and think on Him who we love. We pray for the mind of Christ to be ever in us and we train our minds to think in godly ways and not to find comfort just in the things of this life. We can have comfort from the fellowship of other believers and share with each other the word of God in our life and this is so satisfying to the Christian especially as we suffer.

We train our mind to think on God and rehearse the never changing promises that He has made to us. We change our thought patterns to conform to the truth of God rather than any worldly philosophy. The Word of God is sufficient for every situation and protects our mind from harm.

One day our mind will be totally redeemed and the troubles of this life will not hurt us any more, but we also foster this attitude in the here and now, that we protect our thought processes from the lies of the evil one. God will help us to rejoice in the spiritual blessings we enjoy and we will positively and truly be able to rejoice in Him. Let us keep our spiritual warfare hot and keep ourselves in the love of God. We disciple our life and thoughts for Him and to Him and foster a safe mind attitude that will guard and guide us through life.
