This verse is from the wonderful Psalm 3. It is David’s response to the rejection of his family and friends who have risen up against him and are plotting to take his place of ruling the people of the Lord. Absolom, David’s son has risen up against his father and is seeking to supplant his just rule with his own faulty ideas. David sings this Psalm to remind himself of the mercy of the Lord.
God has promised to be with His people no matter the circumstances of their life. All may leave us and sideline our efforts for God, but God will keep our service for Him safe in the treasury of heaven. We need never fear for God will lift our head high above those who would hurt us. God is able to turn all evil intentions to good. We do not complain but lift His name high above our circumstances and build our faith in Him.
The Psalmist knows the power and protection of God at other times and knows that God will protect him at this time also. Though all our hope seems lost and the way seems barred to us, yet the Lord will honour those who honour Him. He will lift us high and deliver us from all enemies, even when they are close to us.
Mind illness is an enemy like any physical illness and can be controlled and managed like a physical illness. It is more difficult to sort out as the mind is an almost endless fractal of thoughts, emotions and perspectives. We must learn about ourselves if we are to mange it. This is difficult but we learn through our experiences and self-examination. God will deliver His people from all troubles as we learn to fight the illness and learn to treat ourselves carefully.
When earthly needs make us restless and our sleep is disturbed, God never leaves us but gives the rest and strength we need to be sustained. He gives strength for the day and can sustain us through the most trying of circumstances. His love is the motivation behind it all as He loosens our hold on the provisions of this futile life and lifts our eyes to eternity.
We lift our eyes to heaven and see the end product of our troubles. They are set to make us strong in the Lord our God and able to witness to Him in all our weaknesses. The Lord will not neglect His people though we neglect ourselves. He will teach us His way. Our mind health is safe in His keeping and He will deliver us from illness and all doubt. Often our spiritual life is cold and this will tend to move us away from our God, but we must stay close to Him in daily devotion and often entering the place of mercy in prayer.
God will deliver His people and will teach us what we need to know to overcome all our troubles. Let us not listen to the voice of doubt and sorrow but enter the joy of the deliverance of God.
