We do not naturally go along with the holy law of God nor acquiesce to His perfect ways. We carp and quibble against the God of eternity and pass our unrighteous judgment on Him as a person and on His ways. We are inclined to lift our psyche against Him and we are hostile to His authority and righteous ways. We have all sorts of ideas from recent philosophies which are propagated by this world and its systems and we believe everything but the truth of God revealed in holy Scripture.
The reality of the shed blood of Christ is not in our modern vocabulary and we have ceased to value it and the power it has to forgive our sin. We have become embarrassed to talk about the shed blood of Christ and tend to walk away from its powerful ability to pay for sin. In fact we don’t want to talk of sin at all because it makes us feel bad and undermines our personal confidence to live our lives the way we choose. The Scripture is full of blood sacrifice – all through the Old Testament so that we are left in no doubt as to the seriousness of sin and the consequences of it. Animals died to make to atonement for sin, and yet they were only the picture of the coming Saviour who would sacrifice His life to pay for our sin. Sin is so serious and has caused God to have to intervene in our world with a rescue plan for us that we might not be plunged into hell. It is that serious…!
Sin ruins our life and keeps us away from God. Whether you are a Christian or not, sin will bring enmity between you and God and will make a huge barrier to any relationship you might have with Him. Sin makes fools of us for we indulge in it to our everlasting ruin when we could be free from it and know victory over our sinful inclinations. The blood of Jesus is so powerful that it can cleanse us from every stain of our sin and make us righteous before the holy God, our Father in heaven. It can purge away the sin and give us victory over our indwelling predisposition for sin and make us clean people. This is also seen in the sacrifices of the Old Testament when the scapegoat took the blame for sin and was released and lost in the wilderness, never to be found again. What a powerful picture of what Jesus has done for us. We can really and truly have the victory through Him who loves us and has bled and died to save us!
Do not entertain sin or excuse yourself about practicing it. It is too easy to do that and we soft pedal the effect of our desires and it leads us away from God. How much we need the Lord to help us to see as He sees and make judgments like He does. He wants us to be free from the condemnation of sin and the only remedy is through the blood of the Christ. We must face up. This is the difficult part because we don’t want to face our failures and give up our sin, which we find pleasurable. It is so hard for the sinner to turn, but we have the power and the will of God to help us to walk rightly. We turn from our sin and seek His forgiveness and a new start in our walk with God. This is basically what a Christian is – a condemned person who has been set free by the payment of another. Jesus has paid for us so that we can go free. What a loving Saviour and we can follow Him and know His companionship all through our Christian life. The message is so straightforward and so full of grace and mercy it should reduce us to tears.
Let us please the Lord by coming to Him in humility to find life and peace through that shed blood of Christ and find the liberty that we don’t need to sin but are surrounded by the love of our almighty God. Do not give the devil a foothold but let us bend our knees in deep repentance and find true life.
