Peace

We all long for peace and a quieter life of stability and time for rest. In the midst of our busy life, peace can seem elusive, and we find it hard to come aside from the business of it all and find rest. We need rest for our body, mind and soul and we are taught by the Lord in the Scripture, that the only way to that rest is through Christ. The Scriptures are clear to us, that if we do not have peace with God, we do not have any peace at all. Peace between our soul and the holy God is the reason we have eternal life, so that our eternity is sure and we can know the peace that passes all understanding.

Even in the busy day with all its tasks and trials we can know the inner peace of the Prince of peace – our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of what He has done, we now have peace with God through faith in Jesus. Our sins have all been rubbed out and paid for and we live life under the grace of God.

When we are at peace we can rest in the knowledge that we are protected and sheltered under the mighty hand of God. This is the place of renewal and everlasting repose. There is no other, for all earthly shelters fail and cannot sustain us. This is especially true for our mind health. We have no refuge from anxiety and depression except in God. He alone holds to key to the trauma and only He can release us. Even though we may be going through much emotional turmoil, we can know the security of peace between us and God. The turmoil will not last and God will bring us through all the trauma and out into a plain place of rest. Only God can do this and it is important that we look to His power and not the props of this present life. It is too easy to become dependant on things and people, which can never save us or give us victory.

Let us trust in our loving God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and find deep relief from our worries and anxieties. Only He can deal with the sin that oppressed us and, through forgiveness, can set us free. Only in Christ are we safe from the ravages of our godless society and the power of evil. As we bow ourselves before Him and trust Him, so we are released from all earthly supports and find ourselves standing firm in God. As we look in the Scripture we find a myriad of promises to encourage us and to keep out eyes fixed on Jesus, the Prince of peace. This is the very peace of God that passes all understanding. We stand secure in Him and follow all His precepts.

May you find the peace of God today as you walk through your day with Him.
