“Seek peace and pursue it…”
1 Peter 3:11
People seek peace and so often it eludes us. We search for peace of mind, heart and body but the necessities of life steal it away from us. We must work, look after our families and serve other people, and all our time and effort is poured out daily on keeping the wheels of life turning.
What if we could fully participate, yet maintain an inner peace that is not dictated to by outside forces? What if activity and tiredness could not take it away or take us away from that inner peace with God… ?
This verse tells us about this kind of peace that is not transient but will last through the throws of this life. It is peace that is given and is grounded in the promises of God and not in our fickle feelings and futile thought patterns. We can grasp it as we believe the Word of God and put our faith in the God it talks about.
The peace of God was bought for us through the death of Christ and is applied to our hearts by the work of the Holy Spirit. We grasp this peace and rest in it in faith and hope and rely on the upholding power of the living God.
