Endless circles

The mind that is overloaded and tired tries to right itself though thinking. The mind goes around in endless circles to try to decipher the feelings involved in the depression or mania. It is a way to try to square up the thoughts and feelings that are leading the sufferer down into the depression or up into the mania. It is a mental treadmill that depressive people travel at various points in their life. The first time it happens it is tremendously painful as we walk in uncharted territory of the wasteland that is our mind. We cannot figure it out, nor will we be ever but this is the pattern of suffering that people find themselves following.

The pattern of the thoughts is confusing and as we try to deal with the fear and pain that we feel, it is overwhelming. The thoughts seem to flit from issue to issue as our mind tries to analyse and make sense of it all. The mind is an endless fractal of thinking and analysing and trying to make sense of a reality that maybe has no sense to it anyway. The result is the outworking of fear in our expressions and behaviour. We need to someone to take control and extend some comfort and encouragement to us.

Often the sufferer finds themselves alone for there is little understanding of mind illness and so there seems to be little help. The outsider cannot enter the minds most secret places and cannot catch up with the thoughts anyway.  The doctor can only prescribe medication but that is not the answer. In some instances talking support is given but nothing or no one can come alongside the suffering to help.

We must look to the one who understands it all and commit all we know and feel to Him. We must recognise that we will never work out the meaning of everything, but give over all our selves to our Maker.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones,”

Proverbs 3:5-8

We don’t have to and we can’t work it out but we commit all our deeds and thoughts and words to the Lord. We will watch over our feet in all the ways that we go. If that should lead you into hospital, He will be with you there and help you to get better. It is a mystery how the mind works and processes events in life, so we must exercise faith and believe and rest in Him who knows what is best for us. I commend to you the Lord our God and that He is a faithful companion who knows every thought. We must bring all to Him and obey His Word. This is the way out of confusion and will lead us in a straight path again.

“You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar.”

Psalm 139:2

God knows what we will think even before we think it! This is mind bending and enables us to trust in God and commit our minds to Him. He will ever lead us in the right way and steady up our mind, slow it down and infiltrate it with His peace. This is the remedy and will do us great good and make us well again. We ask God for insight, or wisdom, to know what to think about and what to let go. Just because you think something doesn’t make it true, so it is best to hold to the Words of God and not our own thoughts. Reading the book of Psalms is so good as David also was a sufferer and also his mighty son, king Solomon. You are in good company, so do not be downhearted….
